With The Witcher being Netflix's second most-watched TV show of 2019 — behind only Stranger Things: Season 3 — it's clear that the streaming service has found its next golden goose — and chances are that the series' future has already been mapped out.
According to the show's Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich — who has also helped shape The Defenders and The Umbrella Academy — the pre-production on The Witcher: Season 2 has already begun. "Leaving my family in Los Angeles continues to be the hardest thing I do. But here I am. Doing it again, with all their love and support to back me up. Onto #TheWitcher S2!," the executive producer announced on Twitter.
Upon its release, the first season of The Witcher received rather mixed reviews, but it didn't stop it from becoming one of the most discussed TV shows of the past year.
While the second chapter of Geralt's small-screen adventures is still at least a year away from release, it looks like the filming crew is set and ready to bring Andrzej Sapkowski's books to life once again. This timetable could also mean that the company is actually eyeing a very early 2021 release — which is great news for fans of the universe.
Hissrich has already confrimed that the series' second season will be more easy to follow (especially for those who are unfamiliar with the award-winning books or games), with Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri joining forces to stop the Continent from being torn apart by Nilfgaard's rising power.
