MARVEL'S AVENGERS & FINAL FANTASY VII: REMAKE Have Been Pushed Back by Square Enix

Square Enix have just officially announced that two of their biggest video games of the year — Final Fantasy VII: Remake and Marvel's Avengers — need to spend more time in the oven and have been unfortunately pushed back.

The company's decision means that Final Fantasy VII: Remake won't release on the 3rd of March — as it's new global release date is April 10, 2020. While we've been anticipating the classic's reimagining for years now, an extra month of waiting is not the end of the world — especially if it allows the developers to polish their game at their own pace.

When it comes to Marvel's Avengers, the delay is definitely on the "major" side of things — as the blockbuster project has lost its May release date and now will launch on September 4, 2020.

While Square's decision may sadden some fans, it's actually in their best interest any way — as we all live by these wise words of Shigeru Miyamoto: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have prepared two letters to players, explaining why the publisher's recent moves were necessary to ensure the highest quality of both high-profile productions. Take a look:

“We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020.

We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.

Thank you for your patience and continued support”

- Producer of Final Fantasy VII: Remake Yoshinori Kitase.

To our fans,

At Crystal Dynamics our ambition has always been to deliver the ultimate Avengers gaming experience. In order to achieve that goal, we have made the difficult decision to move the release date of Marvel’s Avengers to September 4, 2020.

As fans ourselves, it’s an honor and a privilege to work with these legendary characters and we know what these Super Heroes mean to us and True Believers around the world. When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

The worldwide teams working on Marvel’s Avengers sincerely appreciate the support you’ve shown us. We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.

The world has fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him. The story of this first, standalone game in the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE project covers up to the party’s escape from Midgar, and goes deeper into the events occurring in Midgar than the original FINAL FANTASY VII.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is coming to PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel's Avengers will release for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020.
