There goes your hope to play a brand-new Left 4 Dead video game anytime soon, as Valve has decided to finally deny recent reports on the alleged threequel, officially confirming that the once-popular series is — no pun intended — dead.

In case you're not familiar with those — now-debunked — articles, some "reporters" were recently claiming that Valve was developing a sequel to 2009's classic Left 4 Dead 2. According to their revelations, L4D3 would even possibly be a VR title similar to the recently unveiled Half-Life: Alyx

"We’ve seen rumors to this effect for the last couple of months,” Valve said in a statement published by IGN. “We did briefly explore some Left 4 Dead next gen opportunities a few years ago. But we are absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven’t for years."

It’s clear some people are having fun creating misinformation to spin up the community and other outlets. Unfortunately, for now a new L4D game is not something we’re working on," the spokesman concluded, breaking hearts of many L4D enthusiasts.

While it's definitely not the news fans had been hoping for, it's good to know that the team at Valve at least tried to revive the zombie franchise a couple of years ago — even if that attempt wasn't very successful.
