Bloober Team Is Focusing on "AAA" Horror Games; MEDIUM & OBSERVER Sequel Will Launch in 2020
Bloober Team — the Cracow-based game developer responsible for the Layers of Fear series, Observer and Blair Witch — has announced that it will no longer make low-budget productions to focus solely on the so-called "AAA" development. The pay off of the decision will reportedly be presented to the public in the next few months.
Earlier today, Bloober Team held a special presentation for shareholders and potential investors to discuss the current state of the studio, and fans of the developer's recent work should be pleased with its all-new direction.
"We're moving away from games that can be created in a relatively short period of time, mid-range products. We're planning to make bigger productions, called "AAA" (in the horror genre). The prices of our "big games" will be higher than the ones we've published so far," the report reads.
Bloober then adds: "Spending more time on these projects, both in pre-production and production, is the only way to make sure that our unique ideas are of high quality and that they have the chance to sell in millions of copies."
The developer is aiming to release one big-budget title every 1,5-2 years, with at least two major games being in the works at the studio simultaneously. "On the other hand, we're not forgetting abut out smaller titles (based on our IPs) that will be forged ahead mostly by our outsourcing partners," the company concluded.
Only this year, Bloober will publish two major productions, with the mysterious Medium being one of them.
Medium is the biggest project Bloober has even done. According to the vague details shared by the studio, the titular Medium is a woman — the game's main protagonist — who can travel across multiple dimensions, the real one and the spiritual realm. Quite surprisingly, Medium is a next-gen game that will likely be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The Polish game maker is also working on a new title set in the Observer universe, and it will hit stores in 2020.
That's not all, as Bloober also revealed that "something surprising" will be announced in the coming months, but that's everything we know about it at the time of this writing.
