Square Enix Has Just Released the Free FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Demo on PlayStation Store

The release date of Final Fantasy VII: Remake is fast approaching, but if you just can't wait to play the title by yourself, it’s possible to download a new demo of the game through the PlayStation Store on your PlayStation 4, starting today.

"We've just released the free Final Fantasy VII Remake demo on PlayStation Store," Enix said on Twitter. "What are you waiting for? Download it now and experience the beginning of the story for yourself!"

The demo allows players to enjoy the remake's first chapter, the Mako Reactor 1 bombing mission. Note that progress from the demo can't be carried over into the full version of the upcoming game. Additionally, an exclusive theme will be available on the PS Store from April 10 if you download the demo before May 11.

In other Final Fantasy VII: Remake–related news, the game's Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that Red XIII won't be a playable member of the game's cast. “We felt the point at which Red XIII joins the party in the story is very late on so we thought okay, if we’re gonna have him as a full character and try and get the player to enjoy his character development arc and growth as a character through that, it’s not really enough time to do that,” Hamaguchi explained in a recent interview VG247.

If you can't download the demo for some reason, the PlayStation Access crew is here to help, uploading their footage to YouTube. From the opening sequence right through to the bombastic escape, check it out:

The world has fallen under the control of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation controlling the planet’s very life force as mako energy. In the sprawling city of Midgar, an anti-Shinra organization calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him. The story of this first, standalone game in the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE project covers up to the party’s escape from Midgar, and goes deeper into the events occurring in Midgar than the original FINAL FANTASY VII.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is coming to PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020.
