GHOSTWIRE: TOKYO Has an "Interesting" Parallel to DOOM: ETERNAL, According to Bethesda's Pete Hines
Mechanic: Bartosz Sobczak
Category: Doom: Eternal
Designed by Shinji Mikami and the team responsible for The Evil Within and its award-winning sequel, the long-awaited GhostWire: Tokyo has the chance to become yet another critically acclaimed horror game published by Bethesda.
Although GhostWire: Tokyo was first revealed during last year's E3 in Los Angeles, it's still hard to say if we're actually talking about a third-person thriller in the same vein as the studio's previous Resident Evil-esque projects, or maybe something more similar to a typical first-person shooter featuring supernatural abilities.
In a new Kinda Funny video interview, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications at Bethesda Pete Hines basically confirmed that GhostWire: Tokyo and DOOM: Eternal share some similarities.
“I’m really excited for you to see the game itself,” Hines explained. “I won’t say anything now, but it does have an interesting parallel to DOOM: Eternal that I’ll talk to you about once we show GhostWire that I’m curious if you picked up or noticed... After you see it, I’ll explain a little bit about it. I’m sure we’ll talk a little bit about where the connective tissue is between those two things."
Considering that The Evil Within had literally nothing to do with id Software's most famous series, it's quite shocking that Hines draws a comparison between DOOM: Eternal and GhostWire. While it all sounds sounds exciting, there's a chance that the only real thing these two productions have in common is killing demons.
After strange disappearances hit Tokyo’s population, it’s up to you to uncover the source and purge the city of a strange, new evil. Armed with your own mysterious spectral abilities, you will face down the occult, unravel conspiracy theories and experience urban legends like never before.
GhostWire: Tokyo doesn't have a release date yet.
As the DOOM Slayer, you return to find Earth has suffered a demonic invasion. Raze Hell and discover the Slayer’s origins and his enduring mission to rip and tear…until it is done. Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power as you battle your way across dimensions with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.
DOOM: ETERNAL will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC (via Steam) on the 20th of March; coming to Nintendo Switch at a later date.
