Techland Is Hoping to Release a Brand-New RPG a Year or Two After the Launch of DYING LIGHT 2
Although Techland is currently focusing mostly on Dying Light 2, the Wrocław-based studio is also developing a mysterious role-playing game — and chances are that it will be released a year or two after the launch of the zombie sandbox.
Unlike the vast majority of Polish game developers, Techland still is a privately-held company that doesn't make its shares available for trading on public markets.
Considering that the Call of Juarez and Dead Island developer is actually the second biggest game studio in Poland — with CD Projekt Red being the region's leader — going public may seem like a no-brainer, but Techland will officially remain in its current state at least until after Dying Light 2's launch.
During a recent press conference with Polish media, the company's CEO Paweł Marchewka revealed that Dying Light 2's budget might break the $100-million mark when it's all said and done — and the highly anticipated sequel to 2015's hit game is not the only project Techland is working on.
According to Techland, the studio's first RPG set in a fantasy world will hit stores a year or two after the launch of Dying Light 2. Although the sequel has been pushed back, it's still on track for a 2020 release.
"We're not saying that our next success after that debut [of Dying Light 2] is a matter of five years — we have a studio in Warsaw, which is simultaneously developing our second title, a new IP. I think that the second game may be released a year or two after the debut of Dying Light 2," a member of the Techland Board said.
It's not clear if Techland's upcoming RPG will have anything to do with the studio's long-delayed Hellraid.
It’s been 15 years since humanity lost to the virus. The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, infected world, plunged into a modern dark age. During the day, bandits, factions and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps - or someone to take them from, by violence if necessary. At night the infected roam free, evacuating their dark hideouts to prey on the living.
Dying Light 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) in 2020.
