CDP Red Is Planning to Make New WITCHER Game, but CYBERPUNK 2077 Is Studio's Main Priority

The development team at CD Projekt Red is currently busy polishing the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077, but the award-winning studio is already thinking about returning to the Andrzej Sapkowski–created universe of The Witcher. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like a sequel to 2015's Wild Hunt will be released anytime soon.

As reported by the Polish Press Agency, CD Projekt Red is going to re-start production on the studio's next title right after the release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September. "We were developing our next single-player title, we even managed to clarify the game's overall concept, but we don't want to spend too much time on it at the moment. Once we're done with Cyberpunk 2077, we'll be fully committed to that second title," CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński explained during yesterday's meeting with Polish media.

Kiciński also revealed that making new Witcher games is still on the cards. "We've got two worlds [Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher] and we want to make games set in these two universes — which also means that our planned titles will either be "Witcher-y" or "Cyberpunk-y," the CEO added.

Following the debut of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red will be divided into three teams — the biggest one will be responsible for the game's multiplayer mode, the second one (at least size-wise) will be developing DLC for the RPG, while the third, and smallest team will start working on the studio's next single-player title.

"We want to make more games, we want to prove that we can make two big games simultaneously — and it will take us a good couple of years," Kiciński concluded. Although the studio has already tried to simplify its development process, the CEO does believe that finishing the new RPG is a matter of 4-5 years.

In December, it was officially announced that the unexpected feud between Sapkowski and CD Projekt had been settled. Kiciński didn't reveal any new details on the basis of their new agreement, but both parties have reportedly cemented their relationship and are working together on the yet-to-be-revealed project.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you. Become a cyberpunk, an urban mercenary equipped with cybernetic enhancements and build your legend on the streets of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC (via Steam, GOG and the EGS) on the 17th of September.
