Koei Tecmo Releases NIOH 2 Opening Movie; Soulslike Game Receives Rave Reviews Across the Board

Given that Team Ninja is one of the most experienced and reliable game developers working today, it shouldn't be too surprising that the Japanese studio's latest project — the PS4-exclusive NiOh 2 — has been receiving rave reviews all across the board.

Currently siting at an impressive 86% score on Metacritic, NiOh 2 is shaping up to be yet another must-have for every fan of the original and the Souls-like genre in general. According to the majority of critics, the title does almost everything the perfect sequel should do, even if it's a bit too similar to the first instalment.

Between Dreams, NiOh 2Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, the first half of 2020 is proof that Sony is not pulling any punches, even with the PS5 looming on the horizon.

NiOh 2 finally launches this Friday, and to make the wait easier, Koei Tecmo has released the game's opening movie. The video focuses on the main protagonist, a half-demon offspring who's able to harness and use supernatural powers — which means that Devil May Cry fans should definitely keep an eye on NiOh 2.

Without further ado, take a look at the critically acclaimed NiOh 2 in the action-packed trailer down below:

Master the art of the samurai in this brutal masocore RPG… for death is coming. Journey to 1555 Japan, a country gripped in endless warfare where monsters and evil spirits stalk a land of natural beauty and menacing peril. Hunt down your enemies as a rogue mercenary wielding the supernatural powers of the mythical Yokai. Can you survive the treacherous Sengoku era and the new and terrifying Dark Realm?

Nioh 2 is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 on March 13, 2020.
