Director Éric Chahi Discusses Origins of Acclaimed PAPER BEAST; PS VR Title Launches Today

The long-awaited Half-Life: Alyx is not the only brand-new VR-exclusive production that gamers should keep an eye on, as Pixel Reef's original Paper Beast launches today — unfortunately, you need Sony's PlayStation VR Headset to play it.

Given that Alyx is compatible only with the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality and Oculus Rift headsets, the fact that Paper Beast is launching for PS VR today is definitely great news for the tech's fans.

Just like Alyx, Paper Beast is a critically acclaimed production, sitting at a fantastic 81% score on Metacritic

Directed by Éric Chahi (Another World, From Dust), Paper Beast allows players to embark on a virtual journey "leading quirky animals through a colorful universe that sprouts from the remnants of the internet."

During a recent interview with the PlayStation Blog, Chahi had the chance to reveal some new details on the origins of Paper Beast. "The living world, of course! The way animals move, their curiosity, the way they look at things… There is a strong bond between the land and the living. Animals have an impact and influence on their environment. Look at ants, beavers, or even simple earthworms and how they change the terrain. That’s part of the gameplay," the award-winning director explained.

If you're not a PS VR owner, you can take a look at Paper Beast in 20 minutes of new footage down below:

Somewhere deep down in the vast memory of a data server, an ecosystem has emerged. Decades of lost code and algorithms have accumulated in the eddies and flows of the Internet. A small bubble of life has blossomed. Paper Beast is born.
