New Details on Carlos Oliveira's Crucial Mission in RESIDENT EVIL 3: REMAKE Have Been Revealed

Jill Valentine won't be the only playable character in the fast-approaching reimagining of 1999's Resident Evil 3, as fans of the long-running series probably know that mercenary Carlos Oliveira will have his own section to play through in the threequel.

Although Capcom has been sharing details on Carlos' role in Resident Evil 3 sparingly, Game Informer recently had the chance to take a look at the deuteragonist and monsters he'll face during his campaign.

"If you look at the original design of Carlos, you could say that he had a more easygoing, almost playboy personality," Art Director Yonghee Cho explained. "We wanted to maintain his personality, but at the same time, make sure that the way he interacts with everybody makes sense, given the dire situation. In terms of the hairstyle, we went back to that easygoing nature. He's not going to be too concerned about that stuff, so we’re making sure that part of his character is intact."

Just like in the original, Carlos' mission to find a cure to the T-virus will be set in a ruined hospital. In the remake, said building will be much bigger, with a network of interlocking rooms waiting to be explored. Unfortunately, the hospital's zombiefied staff will do their best to kill the heavy weapons specialist.

While Jill will try to escape the grasp of the relentless Nemsis, Carlos will have to wind a way to destroy the lizard-like hulks known as the Hunter Beta. "I wanted to make sure that it was clear that these are not naturally occurring adversaries," Cho added. "These are manmade, artificial creatures. Specifically, with the Hunter, if you take a look at the original design, it has a much more humanoid look. This time around, we wanted the hunters to look almost beast-like, a little bit more feral."

Taking into account that Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 3 launches on April 4, players around the world will get a firsthand experience of being chased by the all-new, all-awful zombie monsters soon enough.

Experience Jill Valentine’s encounter with the unrelenting Nemesis in this survival-horror classic remade from the ground up. It also includes Resident Evil Resistance, a new 1 vs 4 asymmetrical online multiplayer game set in the Resident Evil universe. Cooperate as one of four Survivors or as a twisted Mastermind attempting to stop them at every turn.

Resident Evil 3: Remake is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) on April 3, 2020.
