Sony Shuts Down DRIVECLUB Servers Today; Evolution Studios' Last Game Is Still Playable in Offline Modes

The multiplayer features of the Sony-published Driveclub, Driveclub VR, and Driveclub Bikes won't be playable anymore, as all online servers for Evolution Studios' PlayStation 4–exclusive racing game will be officially turned off later today.

Considering that 2014's Driveclub was Evolution Studios' final production before the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift developer's unexpected closure in March 2016, the fact that the award-winning Driveclub will become a shadow of its former self starting today is definitely more than just bad news for fans of racing games.

From March 31, the game's functionality will be affected in more than one way, as you will not be able to:

  • Use your season pass online.
  • Represent your Club online in multiplayer events or tours.
  • Play online multiplayer and compete in challenges.
  • Create your own events.
  • Compete in leader boards, or share stats and player progress.

Thankfully, the games' single-player modes will still be playable offline even after the servers go dark. Taking into account that joining racing clubs with friends or strangers online was one of the game's core mechanics, Sony's decision to disable the servers will surely make the whole Driveclub experience less entertaining.

As a reminder, all three Driveclub video games were removed from the PlayStation Store last year.

DRIVECLUB brings to life the heart and soul of car culture. An incredible, authentic and immersive PS4 driving experience, DRIVECLUB makes you feel the exhilaration of driving the most powerful and beautifully designed cars in the world; all rendered in staggering detail, inside and out as you race them in richly detailed real-world locations alongside your Club.
