The team at Nintendo has some good news for fans of playing story-driven games on their Nintendo Switch, as last year's sleeper hit The Outer Worlds is finally coming to the hybrid console on June 5, 2020 — both digitally and physically. The long-awaited Switch port of The Outer Worlds will be officially priced at $59.99.
Back in February, publisher Private Division decided to delay the Switch edition's original March launch — due to the coronavirus outbreak — but it looks like Singaporean game developer Virtuos is back at work.
"The retail version The Outer Worlds comes on a physical cartridge [the game's install size is 38.69 GB on PS4 and XBO], and it will be accompanied by a day one patch that could be up to 6 GB. This patch will optimize gameplay, provide additional hi-res textures, and include other fixes to provide the employees of Halcyon with the best gameplay experience," Private Division announced on its website.
Given that the company's initial plan was to release the Switch port's retial edition as a digital download code in the box with no game cartridge, it's good to know that those with a slow internet connection will have the option to purchase the physical version of the game and worry "only" about the big 6 GB patch.
Unfortunately, chances are that The Outer Worlds will be one of the last Obsidian-developed games to ever debut on Switch, as the Alpha Protocol studio is now part of Microsoft's in-house Xbox Game Studios family.
The Outer Worlds is a new single-player first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
The Outer Worlds is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via the Epic Games Store); coming to Nintendo Switch on June 5, 2020.
