Publisher 2K and developer Firaxis Games have just announced a sequel to 2016's XCOM 2 — titled XCOM: Chimera Squad — and what's even better, the newly revealed turn-based strategy game is coming to PC (via Steam) on April 24, 2020. Quite surprisingly, XCOM: Chimera Squad will be priced at $9.99 at launch.
XCOM: Chimera Squad picks up where XCOM 2 left off, shorty after humanity successfully saved Earth from an alien invasion. According to 2K, "when the Overlords fled the planet, they left their former soldiers behind. Now, five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans and aliens are working together to forge a civilization of cooperation and coexistence." Your role as the leader of the titular Chimera Squad is simple — destroying "the underground threats driving the city [the game's playground] toward chaos."
Reportedly, the fast-approaching XCOM: Chimera Squad is a completely fresh offering, allowing players to lead their own squads trough "a new experience that innovates on XCOM's turn-based legacy, utilizing strategy, teamwork, and new breach-and-clear gameplay to complete your mission objectives."
As a friendly reminder, the XCOM 2 Collection will make its way to Nintendo Switch on the 29th of May.
Considering that Chimera Squad is going to debut on PC in 10 days, we should learn a whole lot more about the project in the near future. In the meantime, take a look at its reveal and overview trailers down below:
