Saber Interactive's Zombie Shooter WORLD WAR Z Will Officially Be Available for Nintendo Switch
In a surprising turn of events, developer Saber Interactive has officially announced that one of the most unexpected sleeper hits in recent history — the video game adaptation of World War Z — is coming to Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, the studio has not revealed any concrete details on the Switch port yet.
Those who are still waiting for the right moment to purchase the online shooter should keep an eye on World War Z: Game of the Year Edition. This upcoming version of the 2019 title will include never-before-seen content such as weapon packs, character packs, and most importantly, an original 3-mission episode.
"World War Z has had a huge impact on our studio in all respects. It feels fantastic to hit goals that perhaps a few years ago seemed unimaginable," Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch told IGN.
"We have over 10 million registered players that have played the game and our concurrent player counts are regularly in the tens of thousands. During our free week on the Epic Games Store 9.9 million people claimed the game and we peaked at 250k simultaneous users across platforms. The Epic team told me WWZ was the most successful free game on EGS yet - we even topped Left 4 Dead 2 in terms of downloads and number of players," Karch added.
Fans of Saber's NBA 2K Playgrounds franchise should be more than happy to hear that the studio will continue working on the series despite the fact that the developer has been acquired by the Embracer Group (formerly known as THQ Nordic AB). "Absolutely. We have a fantastic relationship with 2K and we plan on continuing the partnership." the CEO expained, "Our acquisition by Embracer won’t change Saber’s DNA, in fact I would say that one of the reasons we were so keen to join them is because I believe their culture will amplify what has made us successful. Embracer allows its studios to become the best versions of ourselves, I think you see that with the other companies under their umbrella."
The aforementioned World War Z: GOTY Edition will be released on the 5th of May for Xbox One and PS4 for $49.99, while the PC version will launch the same day on the Epic Games Store for $44.99. The brand-new World War Z questline is set in Marseille, and you can check it out in the action-packed video down below:
Powered by Saber’s dynamic Swarm Engine, World War Z unleashes hundreds of fast-moving, bloodthirsty zombies at a time on players in a nail-biting action experience around the world, including New York, Moscow, Jerusalem and more. Play in co-op with up to 3 friends using six distinct classes and an arsenal of deadly weapons, explosives, turrets and traps to demolish the undead menace and survive another day.
World War Z is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via the Epic Games Store); coming to Nintendo Switch at a later date.
