Publisher THQ Nordic has revealed that Purple Lamp Studios' highly anticipated SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated will be releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on the 23rd of June. If you just can't wait to purchase the fast-approaching video game, it's now available to pre-order on PC (via GOG and Steam) and Xbox One, with PS4 and Switch to follow "at a later date."
According to THQ, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is a "faithful remake of one of the best SpongeBob games ever created," including the reimagined base version of the 2003 classic, a new online mode, and cut content from the original, such as a boss battle with Robo-Squidward.
When it comes to the aforementioned multiplayer component, it basically is a Gears of War–esuqe horde mode for two players (taking on the role of SpongeBob, Patrick or Sandy); also playable in split-screen mode.
The upcoming production is being created at Purple Lamp Studios, the makers of The Guild 3. The long-awaited game will also contain "all fifteen beloved tracks that make every day the Best Day Ever!"
With Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated debuting this summer, THQ will definitely share new details on the remake in the near future. In the meantime, take a look at the title's latest gameplay trailer down below:
Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!
Spongebob Squarepants Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam and GOG) on June 23, 2020.
