Kalypso Media's Next-Gen COMMANDOS Is Powered by Unreal Engine 4 and Set in World War II

Claymore Game Studios — Kalypso Media Group's third internal game development studio — is working on a new entry in the long-running Commandos series, and it sounds like fans of the stealth-oriented franchise are in for a treat. Sadly, it's safe to say that the real-time strategy game won't hit stores anytime soon.

During a recent interview with SegmentNext, the Darmstadt-based developer revealed some new details on the upcoming production. When it comes to the title's release window, the studio is "still in pre-production with many open questions to be answered, [so] it is too early to talk about a release date today."

Fans of the original trilogy should be happy to hear that the game will take place in WW2 and the company will make sure that veteran players "can expect some pleasant surprises and unexpected encounters."

Much like last year's Tropico 6, Kalypso Media's forthcoming Commandos game will be powered by Unreal Engine 4. "We want to have the best possible platform for a project which is targeted for the next generation of consoles, and the right tools at hand for us to achieve the desired visual quality," Claymore Game explained. "The features which UE4 offers for lighting, shading and visual effects are exactly what we need to create the look and feel and the atmosphere that we’re looking for."

That's right, the next-gen Commandos title is on the way to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. As a reminder, Commandos 2 - HD Remaster is currently available on PC and will come to Switch, XBO, and PS4 "soon."
