UNCHARTED Has New Release Date as Tom Holland's Long-Delayed Film Will Open in July 2021

After a seemingly endless series of delays, the team at Sony Pictures has officially changed the Uncharted movie's release date yet again, this time moving it forward three months to July 16, 2021 from its previous date of October 8, 2021. The production is currently slated to open against Warner Bros.' Space Jam 2.

Although the spread of coronavirus in the US is showing early signs of slowing, chances are that Uncharted won't keep its brand-new release date, as shooting in Hollywood is not expected to resume until August.

Considering that Sony's Uncharted was originally supposed to make its debut in June 2017 (and later December 2020 and March 2021), it's obvious that — just like Holland's other long-delayed movie, Chaos Walking — the flick will be lucky to hit theaters next year (if it opens in the foreseeable future at all).

Starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Mark Wahlberg (The Departed), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Sophia Ali (Truth or Dare), and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Uncharted will serve as a prequel to the beloved Naughty Dog–created franchise, shedding new light on Drake's youth.

As a reminder, a TV series based on the studio's first The Last of Us is in the works at HBO, with Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann — the writer and creative director of the game — set to produce the show.
