Desolate World of MORTAL SHELL Comes to Life in Some Never-Before-Seen Gameplay Footage

Developer Cold Symmetry has released six short teasers for Mortal Shell — the studio's answer to Dark Souls and NiOh — showcasing its Beksiński–esque world, towering enemies, and the main hero's unique skills and magical powers. If you're not familiar with the game, it was revealed in 2018 under the Dungeonhaven name.

The Playstack-published Mortal Shell is being developed by a 15-strong team made up of "AAA" veterans, aiming to release the (extremely hard from the get-go) title as some point between July and September.

There's no denying that Mortal Shell's combat system will make or break the game. According to the studio, it's "strategic and deliberate. You must commit your sword only when an opportunity opens. Calculate your parries to unleash [...] counterblows. Temporarily entomb your Mortal Shell in stone to block attacks, or play aggressive and use your stone-form to add brutal weight to your own sword swings."

With Mortal Shell, Hellpoint, and Elden Ring hitting stores this year, fans of the subgenre (who have already finished the recently released NiOh 2) will definitely stay busy at home during social distancing.

Be sure to take a closer look at the Mortal Shell universe in snippets of new gameplay footage down below:

Awakening as an empty vessel, you will enter into a shattered and twisted world where the remains of humanity wither and rot. Implored to do the bidding of the mysterious “Dark Father”, you must traverse this tattered landscape and track down hidden sanctums of devout followers. There, in Mortal Shell’s most hallowed grounds, you must overcome formidable foes and harvest the sacred glands. You won’t be truly alone when the dead litter your path: Scattered across this land are the remnant anima of lost warriors who can be inhabited to gain their unique abilities and knowledge of weapons. The Dark Father is desperate for you to complete your task — but to what end?

Mortal Shell is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) in Q3 2020.
