Funcom's DUNE Will Share Similarities With CONAN EXILES; Won't Be Released Anytime Soon

Norway-based video game developer and publisher Funcom has officially released its 2019 financial report, revealing some new details on its next big thing, an open-world survival project set in the Frank Herbert–created Dune universe. Unfortunately, the recently announced title definitely won't hit stores anytime soon.

According to Funcom, Dune is the studio's "biggest, most exciting and most ambitious" upcoming production. Although the sandbox game is heading to PC and consoles, it's still "a few years away."

Designed to be a game as a service from the beginning, Funcom's new title will be a more "ambitious and robust version of Conan Exiles," so fans of the best-selling MMO should definitely keep an eye on Dune.

Considering that Funcom has the rights to that license for six years (the strategic partnership with Legendary Entertainment for the creation of [at least] three Dune-themed video games was announced in February 2019), chances are the Secret World Legends makers will be supporting the Dune MMO in the long term.

As a friendly reminder, the Denis Villeneuve–directed Dune remake — said to be the first instalment of a two-part story — is currently slated to open in the United States on December 18, 2020, in IMAX and 3D.
