After years of waiting, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II is right around the corner — the PS4 exclusive will be released on the 19th of June — serving as a direct sequel to one of the highest-rated story-driven games of all time. As a reminder, The Last of Us Part II was revealed at Paris Games Week in October 2017.
To make the survival-esque game's June launch possible, Sucker Punch's first original IP since 2009's InFamous — Ghost of Tsushima — has been pushed back a month, and will now hit stores on July 17, 2020.
Although the ship known as The Last of Us Part II is leaking like it's nobody's business (it's still not clear who exactly has managed to come into possession of the upcoming game's early copy and share it with everybody on the Internet), Naughty Dog also has some pretty good news for fans of the first instalment.
The good news is that The Last of Us Part II has gone gold, which means that it should finally make its long-awaited debut next month. Considering that the sequel was originally supposed to launch in February (and later in May), the delay is rather steep, but it good to know that the studio has finished developing the title.
"I just wanted to take this moment to congratulate the team that has pulled off the most ambitious game we’ve ever made," Game Director Neil Druckmann said in a special message to all the fans who have been supporting the Santa Monica-based studio. "On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog, we want to say thank you to you guys. You’ve been very patient waiting for this game for years with us, and you’re just a few weeks away from getting it."
