Human Head Studios' Troubled RUNE II Gets Major Patch and Action-Packed Gameplay Trailer

Although the team at Human Head Studios is no longer working on Rune II — the Madison-based game developer closed its doors in November — its publisher is doing whatever it can to make the critically panned title actually enjoyable. The RPG was released in November, but its journey is clearly far from over.

The Lazarus update — which is now available for the troubled game — reportedly "brings a complete overhaul of Rune II. With redesigned combat and player progression, the addition of villages and villagers, Rune II is pioneering the looter-stabber-bludgeoner-chopper-puncher-slicer genre."

According to publisher Ragnarok Game, Lazarus introduces a plethora of long-awaited features and quality of life bug fixes, including the ability for villagers to give you quests, parrying system, the ability to combo light attacks directly into a block or a dodge, adjusted health and shield amounts for Loki, and many more.

Considering that Rune II is sitting at a terrible 47% score on Metacritic, it's good to know that the studio is trying to fix the game's biggest issues — even though it isn't what fans of the 2000 original had hoped for.

Without further ado, take a closer look at the new Lazarus update in its short overview trailer down below:

It was foretold that during Ragnarok, the gods would fall and the nine realms would be consumed by frost and fire… but it is not what happened. The gods did not perish. Instead, for seven terrible years, giants, beasts, and the undead have ravaged the realms while the gods inexplicably withheld their protection. Immersed in darkness and chaos, mankind’s own world of Midgard lies captive in the cruel grasp of maniacal Loki.

Rune II is currently available on the Epic Games Store; coming to Steam this year.
