Ubisoft Registers New PRINCE OF PERSIA Domain and It's Best News of Spectacularly Terrible Year - UPDATE
Mechanic: Bartosz Sobczak
After announcing Prince of Persia: The Dagger Of Time (a VR "escape game") in February and For Honor - Blades of Persia (a limited time cross-brand in-game event) in March, Ubisoft has registered a domain name for Prince of Persia 6. That's right, a brand-new Prince of Persia video game could be on the way.
The unexpected news comes from Reddit user NayamAmarshe who spotted the domain name registered by Ubisoft earlier today (on the 4th of May). With the next Inside Xbox event being right around the corner, the French studio might actually announce a new entry in one of its greatest series sooner rather than later.
When it comes to the name itself, it makes perfect sense, at the Ubisoft-created Prince of Persia franchise consists of five major instalments (and countless smaller titles): PoP: The Sands of Time (2003), PoP: Warrior Within (2004), PoP: The Two Thrones (2005), Prince of Persia (2008), and PoP: The Forgotten Sands (2010).
Considering that Assassin's Creed — which is a spiritual successor to Prince of Persia originally created to serve as its open-world spin-off — is moving in the RPG-lite direction like there's no tomorrow, reviving its older (and more combat and parkour–focused) brother no longer seems like a completely outlandish idea.
As a reminder, Jordan Mechner — the mastermind behind the first few Prince of Persia video games — recently published his The Making of Prince of Persia: Journals 1985-1993 - Illustrated Edition book.
UPDATE: As spotted by NayamAmarshe, the domain is most definitely fake, as it still hasn't been paid for. It looks like it wasn't even registered by Ubisoft (the domain is hosted on GoDaddy, while Ubisoft usually uses the services of Gandi SAS). Long story short — my disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
