Techland Denies Rumours That DYING LIGHT 2 Is a Mess; Studio Dismisses Microsoft Takeover Reports

Techland has been sharing new details on Dying Light 2 quite sparingly ever since its announcement at E3 2018, leading to speculation — fuelled by yesterday's report by Polish website PolskiGamedev — that the long-delayed zombie sandbox is a hot mess. According to the Wroclaw-based studio, that's not the case.

"Techland was not acquired by another publisher. We're still an independent studio, and will deliver Dying Light 2 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4," Techland PR Manager Ola Sondej explained on Twitter, debunking recent rumours that the developer might join Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios family.

"While I have your attention, development of Dying Light 2 is moving forward, the game's in good shape (and in good hands), so worry not. It IS coming," the studio manager added.

When it comes to the aforementioned report — written by Mateusz Witczak, who had been working for Poland's biggest gaming magazine, CD-Action, for nearly a decade before establishing his own industry-focused website — it claims that the team at Techland doesn't really know what Dying Light 2 is supposed to be, with upper management constantly butting heads with game writer and designer Chris Avellone.

Considering that Dying Light 2 was first shown during Microsoft's E3 2018 media briefing, chances are that the ambitious open-world game will step into the spotlight during today's Inside Xbox, starting at 8AM PT.

It’s been 15 years since humanity lost to the virus. The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, infected world, plunged into a modern dark age. During the day, bandits, factions and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps - or someone to take them from, by violence if necessary. At night the infected roam free, evacuating their dark hideouts to prey on the living.

Dying Light 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Steam) in 2020.
