Obsidian Answers Questions About Base-Building Mechanics of Survival GROUNDED in Latest Video

Unlike the vast majority of Obsidian Entertainment–developed video games, the fast-approaching Grounded won't tell a complex story, instead putting emphasis on gameplay mechanics — including gathering resources and building shelters. That's right, Obsidian's next big production is a full-blown survival game.

Considering that Obsidian is best known for creating huge (and often quite long) titles — such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Alpha Protocol and The Outer Worlds — the fact that company is trying something completely new is definitely a welcome change of pace (for the studio and players alike).

The word "huge" is the key to understanding what Grounded is all about. Although the game itself is rather small budget-wise, its world is actually gigantic. You see, your Grounded character will be small. Super small.

In the game's universe, something went terribly wrong and its main cast has been permanently shrunk, forcing players to search for a means of escape from a sunny, beautiful garden. With your protagonist being tiny, even the smallest insects — including spiders, flies, and even ants — will be life-threatening danger.

Grunded is coming to Xbox One and PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store) on July 28, 2020.
