Fans of The Smurfs and Doctor Who should be happy to hear that both series are being adapted into games, with The Smurfs being created at Microids and Doctor Who at Maze Theory, makers of Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom. Unfortunately, it sounds like neither newly announced game will make its debut this year.
According to the French publisher, the game based on The Smurfs is a 3D action-adventure game inspired by Peyo’s comic books; currently developed at OSome Studio, studio behind 2019's Asterix & Obelix XXL 3.
"Thanks to this trans-generational license and the talent of OSome Studio, a long time Microids partner studio which worked on several family games, we are confident in bringing together all gamers in the wonderful world of the Smurfs," Vice-president of Microids Elliot Grassiano explained.
When it comes to Doctor Who, it will actually get two games, "a PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch game and a horror/sci-fi mobile phone takeover game being developed in partnership with Kaigan Games."
These Maze Theory–designed Doctor Who productions will reportedly introduce "new adventures, new game mechanics, intriguing subplots and iconic features such as the TARDIS, terrifying Weeping Angels, imposing Daleks and – of course - the chance to collude with the Doctor herself." Quite interestingly, both Doctor Who titles are being developed in association with the British Film Institute.
