New Female Protagonist Joins the Battle in First RATCHET & CLANK: RIFT APART Trailer

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not the only PlayStation 5–exclusive video game the team at Insomniac Games is currently working on, as the studio's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will allow players to embark on an action-packed intergalactic adventure. The recently revealed production will introduce not only some never-before-seen gameplay mechanics and gravity-defying locations, but also a mysterious female Lombax.

That's right, Ratchet won't be the only playable Lombax in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, with the new furry hero serving as the next-gen game's official deuteragonist. According to the Burbank-based developer, the mystery surrounding the one-armed character — and her origins — will play a key role in the main story.

According to Insomniac, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will showcase the raw power of PS5's SSD, allowing players to teleport between several dimensions (and also within one location) without any loading screens.

Furthermore, the recently revealed Ratchet & Clank game will utilise the DualSense wireless controller in a creative way, as the cutting-edge DualShock 4 successor reportedly "brings combat to life, with haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers adding powerful sensations that increase immersion in combat."

As a reminder, Ratchet & Clank has been an integral part of the gaming system's identity every since the launch of 2002's original. Rift Apart will actually be the 16th Ratchet & Clank game, with the latest entry — simply titled Ratchet & Clank — launching in 2016 to positive reviews (it's sitting at an 85% Metacritic score).
