CD Projekt and Netflix Announce 10-Episode CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS Animated Series

It turns out that Cyberpunk 2077 is not the only project set in the Mike Pondsmith–created world CD Projekt is working on, as the Polish company and Netflix have just announced a new animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The original TV show will premiere on Netflix two years from now, at some point in 2022.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is being created at Japan-based animation company Studio Trigger, the award-winning makers of Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade Academia and BNA: Brand New Animal.

According to CD Projekt, the series is a standalone, "10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk."

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) along with assistant director Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi (Kill la Kill), and character designers Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) and Yuto Kaneko (Little Witch Academia). The series' screenplay will be created by Yoshiki Usa (SSSS.GRIDMAN, Promare), with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka working on the soundtrack (the renowned artist is also scoring The Medium).
