After a relatively short wait and a single delay, Ubisoft Nadeo's reboot of 2006's Trackmania Nations is finally available on PC, and what's even better, the brand-new racing game is completely free for all players.
Unfortunately, 2020's Trackmania won't arrive on Steam anytime soon, as it's yet another Ubisoft-produced video game that is available only on Uplay and the Epic Games Store, joining the ranks of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Anno 1800, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Might & Magic: Chess Royale.
Although Trackmania is a free-to-play title, it still is a Ubisoft game, which means that players have to pay a $10-per-year subscription fee to get unlimited access to the official track editor. Fortunately, the online-focused project doesn't feature any invasive microtransactions, loot boxes, and other "surprise mechanics."
Currently sitting at a perfectly fine 76% score on Metacritic, Trackmania seems to be yet another successful entry in the long-running series. According to the first wave of reviews for the game, the reboot is a fun, polished product that is "easy to learn and hard to master," despite Ubisoft's controversial business model.
Considering that Ubisoft is planning to support Trackmania for years to come, its safe to say that today's debut is only a starting point, with more content coming to the title during its post-launch phase. In the meantime, take a closer look at the action-packed release trailer for the all-new racing game down below:
