Milla Jovovich's MONSTER HUNTER Movie Has Been Delayed by Sony; Will Now Open April 2021

Considering that the coronavirus pandemic shows no signs of slowing down — at least in the Americas — it shouldn't be surprising that Sony has decided to push back the release of its Monster Hunter adaptation.

Although Monster Hunter was supposed to make its debut on the 4th of September, Paul W. S. Anderson's movie will now open on April 23, 2021; the date currently occupied by three big films: Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho, Martin Campbell's The Asset, and finally J.P. Vine and Octavio Rodriguez's Ron's Gone Wrong.

Its worth remembering that Monster Hunter has been in development since 2012 and is a loose adaptation of Capcom's action-adventure series, following the story of Milla Jovovich's Artemis and Tony Jaa's Hunter, who embark on a dangerous journey to battle huge beasts that "rule their domain with deadly ferocity."

As a friendly reminder, Sony also recently delayed Ruben Fleischer's Uncharted movie — as Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark–esque flick won't be released until July 16, 2021 (if at all).

While we're patiently waiting for new details on the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter helmer's take on Monster Hunter, take a look at this explosive still from the upcoming movie (courtesy of Empire Magazine) right now:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

Sony Pictures will release Monster Hunter on April 23, 2021.
