CD Projekt Is Not Afraid to Release CYBERPUNK 2077 Two Days After ASSASSIN'S CREED VALHALLA

During last week's Ubisoft Forward digital event, the French company officially confirmed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released on November 17, 2020 — two days before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077.

Yes, you read that right, Ubisoft is planning to release the sequel to 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey not only four weeks after its own Watch Dogs Legion — which will hit stores on October 29 — but also the same week as CDP's biggest project to date that could very well set a number of records in its opening weekend.

According to CDP, there's plenty of room for both games and they shouldn't cannibalise each other's sales.

"We don't view [Assassin's Creed Valhalla] as a threat," the Warsaw-based company's Investor Relations Director Karolina Gnaś said in an interview earlier today (translated by Gameplay Mechanix). "Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla are two different games with their own unique vibe and theme."

Considering that Cyberpunk 2077 is supposed to be an even bigger hit than CDP's last major release — 2015's The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, which has shipped over 50 million units so far — the fact that Ubisoft will try to steal the Polish team's thunder may significantly hurt both games' sales performance in the long run.

Although Ubisoft's decision to put even more pressure on CDP is rather bizarre — and what's even more surprising, Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla are the only big-budget games occupying the quite empty November 2020 slot, there's a chance that neither title will make its current release date. As a reminder, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed a couple of times since the beginning of the year, with the next entry in the AC series recently losing its Creative Director Ashraf Ismail (due to personal reasons).

Become a legendary Viking warrior raised on tales of battle and glory. Raid your enemies, grow your settlement, and build your political power in the quest to earn a place among the gods in Valhalla. Advanced RPG mechanics allow you to shape the growth of your character and influence the world around you. With every choice you make, from political alliances and combat strategy to dialogue and gear progression, you will carve your own path to glory.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC (via Uplay and the EGS) on November 17, 2020; will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you. Become a cyberpunk, an urban mercenary equipped with cybernetic enhancements and build your legend on the streets of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam, GOG, and the EGS) on November 19, 2020; coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season; will arrive on Google Stadia before the end of the year.
