New Video Shows Making of WATCH DOGS LEGION Cinematic Trailer by INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Designer
During last week's Ubisoft Forward show, the French studio debuted a highly stylised cinematic trailer for Watch Dogs Legion, shining a light on the power struggle between the Albion corporation and Londoners.
It turns out that the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse–esque art style of the video was not only influenced by the animated flick, but actually made by its production designer — Alberto Mielgo, who recently had a chance to work on Netflix's Love, Death & Robots (he wrote, designed, and directed The Witness episode).
"The artist [the trailer's main hero] was in the original script that I read from the agency and it was one of the main reasons why I wanted to do this," the Emmy-awarding winning designer explained in a recent video interview with Ubisoft. "I do not consider myself an artist that engages himself in a political level, but when I saw that this artist that is actually using her art to deliver a message that I actually like and is beautiful into a human level: Reclaim Your Future. I thought that it was fantastic," he said.
For those unfamiliar with the Ubisoft Toronto–created world of Watch Dogs Legion, the title takes place in a post-Brexit London. Following a series of terrorist attacks, Albion — controlled by Nigel Cass — enters the picture, imposing martial law on the confused — and rebellious — civilians to rule the city with an iron fist.
To learn more about the making of the "Tipping Point" trailer, take a closer look at the video down below:
Build the resistance. Recruit anyone. Play as anyone. Londoners are being oppressed by corrupt opportunists and it’s up to you to build a resistance to give the city back to the people. With an entire population of potential recruits and the city’s technology at your fingertips, you’ll need to hack, infiltrate, and fight your way to a liberated London.
Watch_Dogs Legion is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC (via the Epic Games Store and Uplay) on October 29, 2020; will arrive on PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X at a later date.
