MARVEL'S AVENGERS: Matt Fraction-Inspired Hawkeye Joins the Fun in Action-Packed Trailer

It's been known for quite a while now that Hawkeye will make an appearance in the upcoming Marvel's Avengers, and Square Enix has finally confirmed that Clint Barton will the the first hero to join the game's roster during its post-launch phase. That's right, the skilled archer will be the title's 7th playable character.

It means that Hawkeye will play a key role in the story of Crystal Dynamics' next big thing alongside Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, and Thor — and the same Lego set that spoiled Barton's involvement back in January suggested that T'Challa would join the explosive fun sooner rather than later.

According to Community Manager Meagan Marie, the team's take on Hawkeye was inspired by the greatest piece of Clint Barton–releated media ever created — Matt Fraction’s My Life as A Weapon comic book run.

"Our team revisited their favorite comic arc at the beginning of any hero concept process, including Writer Matt Fraction and Artist David Aja’s My Life as A Weapon," Marie explained on the PlayStation Blog. "Hawkeye has his own in-depth story mission chain, and it’s unique from the main campaign because it can be played either co-op or solo, whichever you prefer. He’ll also bring a new villain with him, which you’ll learn about in the future along with other surprises! Below you can see concept art from one of his alternative outfits, drawn from the aforementioned My Life as A Weapon comic."

During his own adventure, Barton will face a familiar villain — but story details are being kept under wraps (although chances are that it will be Trickshot or The Clown — both of whom are supposed to make their cinematic debut in Disney+'s Hawkeye TV series that will reportedly start filming in October). To learn more about Marvel's Avengers' Hawkeye and the long-awaited beta, take a closer look at the videos down below:

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel's Avengers will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020; coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season.
