MONSTER HUNTER Movie Is Finished and

Monster Hunter was supposed to make its long-awaited debut this September, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has ruined Sony Pictures' ambitious plans and forced the film studio to push it back to April 2021.

Although we'll have to wait a bit longer to see Monster Hunter, Director Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Mortal Kombat) has revealed that his next big picture is actually "100 percent finished."

"We were supposed to be releasing it on Labor Day weekend but we pushed it into 2021, but it’s completely done," Anderson said in a recent interview with SYFY Wire. "So it’s coming out April 23 of next year. For me, it’s my most favorite movie I’ve ever made. It has a rather unique look to it."

"I felt it was really important to get out on location and shoot if we wanted to do justice to the amazing landscapes form the game, and that’s exactly what we did," Anderson added. "We shot the movie in Africa and we’ve got lush jungles, we’ve got deserts that reflect the Wildspire Waste from the game, and beautiful, stunning locations, some of which have never been shot before."

"So rather than being in Pinewood Studios and shooting it against a green screen, we’re on these epic, real locations with real lens flare, [...] real water. Real environments that the animators can lock the creatures into. It’s given the movie [an] epic, lush feel that I’m [...] excited about," he concluded.

Its worth remembering that Monster Hunter has been in development since 2012 and is a loose adaptation of Capcom's action-adventure series, following the story of Milla Jovovich's Artemis and Tony Jaa's Hunter.

While we're still patiently waiting for the first Monster Hunter trailer, you can watch its leaked version — which was shown at the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2019 — right here, right now.

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

Sony Pictures will release Monster Hunter on April 23, 2021.
