OUTRIDERS Is All About Freedom and Set in HEART OF DARKNESS–Like World, According to People Can Fly
Mechanic: Bartosz Sobczak
Outriders is shaping up to be one of the most promising shooters of 2020, effortlessly mixing the gameplay mechanics of Destiny and Mass Effect, while also adding some explosive People Can Fly magic on top of that.
Thanks to IGN's continuous coverage of the Polish developer's answer to Tom Clancy's The Division, we recently learned that Outriders has been in the works since 2015 — the year People Can Fly regained its independence from Epic Games, the company behind the fan-favourite Gears of War series and Fortnite.
Set on the alien world of Enoch, the TPS will give players the chance to assume the role of a pioneer sent to the hostile planet with the purpose of building up a base that will allow mankind further colonise the galaxy.
According to Technical Director Krzysztof Dolas, People Can Fly's first original IP since 2011's Bulletstorm is heavily influenced by Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (not to be confused with Eric Chahi's game of the same name). "I remember how Heart of Darkness [influenced] one of our ideas about how'd progress trough the world," he said. "In this book, the character was going deeper and deeper into Africa, and here we go deeper and deeper into our world." Although the title won't shy away from asking important questions, we're still talking about a PCF project, so shooting aliens will be your main activity in the game.
Considering that Outriders will make its debut later this year, we will definitely learn a whole lot more about the cross-gen looter shooter in the near future. In the meantime, take a look at the interview down below:
