STAR WARS: SQUADRONS: EA Motive Discusses Customisable Components and Primary Weapons

Considering that Star Wars: Squadrons will make its debut this October — reasonably priced at $39,99 — it shouldn't be surprising that EA Motive has released some new details on their take on Star Wars: TIE Fighter.

In their latest blog post, the Montreal-based studio discussed one of Star Wars: Squadrons's most important features — customisation tools. During your in-game journey, you will unlock components that will allow you to dramatically change how your ships function, giving you a chance to instantly adapt to any situation.

In Star Wars: Squadrons, almost every ship — except for vehicles without shield generators — has seven component slots, including primary weapons, auxiliary (x2), countermeasures, hull, shields, and engines.

According to the developer, your starfighters can be equipped with up to three passive components and four active components. Although each component has a unique purpose, it sounds like you should always keep an eye on your auxiliary components, as they have a wide range from "adding a repair astromech or tractor beams to a variety of torpedoes, bombs & mines." Sadly, you can’t have two similar components.

"Between power management, overcharging, shield balancing or emergency power conversion, boosting, drifting, throttle management, primary weapons, auxiliary abilities, and countermeasures, the combat piloting experience has significant depth," Lead Gameplay Designer James Clement said. "You can learn the ropes quickly, yet you can look forward to discovering new techniques and tactics for months to come. On top of that, there’s a wealth of customizable components to choose from. There’s a healthy selection to start with and more to unlock through gameplay as you progress."

Furthermore, EA Motive confirmed that you will be able to customise your own cockpit, allowing all players to decorate their ships with galaxy maps, small knick-knacks, various holograms, and also tiny Stormtrooper helmets. What's even better, your enemies will get to see them when they watch a kill-cam of their failure.

The second Death Star is gone, but starfighter pilots unite on both sides of the Galactic Civil War as it rages on in STAR WARS: Squadrons. Fight alongside your squadron to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles and compete in intense 5 vs. 5 dogfights. Get into the cockpit and triumph as a team by completing tactical objectives across known and never-before-seen battlefields, including the gas giant of Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan.

Star Wars: Squadrons is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (via Steam, Origin, and the EGS), and VR devices (including PS VR, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Oculus Rift) on October 2, 2020.
