2K Has Released Truly Spectacular MAFIA: DEFINITIVE EDITION Concept Art and Wallpapers
With Hangar 13's Mafia: Definitive Edition finally hitting stores next month, waste no time and take a look at some never-before-seen concept art and wallpapers for the fast-approaching remake of the 2002 classic.
Illusion Softworks (renamed as 2K Czech in 2008) may have ceased operations, but Mafia: Definitive Edition is still being developed by many members of the original crew. It's worth remembering that after the closure of the company in 2014 some ex-Illusion employees decided to join Hangar 13's offices in Brno and Prague.
According to the studio, Mafia: Definitive Edition will feel like a modern video game — featuring revamped shooting mechanics, now allowing players to hide behind destructible covers Gears of War–style — but its story will remain focused on Tommy Angelo and the rise of and fall of the city's most powerful crime family.
"We put a lot of emphasis on the details and authenticity, so the players could go to the bar, kitchen, workshop, garages, Salieri's office, and so on," Art Director Petr Motejzik Motejzik said. "Everything is pulsating with life there. You can practically smell the cologne, [...] perfumes, and cigars smoked by the elegant men wearing suits, mixed with the smell of tires and oil from Ralphie's garage."
Considering that Mafia: Definitive Edition is right around the corner, we should learn a whole lot more about the Mafia III studio's ambitious take on the beloved crime drama in the coming weeks. Without further ado, take a closer look at the newly released Mafia: Definitive Edition concept art and wallpapers down below:
Re-made from the ground up, rise through the ranks of the Mafia during the Prohibition era of organized crime. After a run-in with the mob, cab driver Tommy Angelo is thrust into a deadly underworld. Initially uneasy about falling in with the Salieri crime family, Tommy soon finds that the rewards are too big to ignore.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam and EGS) on September 25.
