Arkane Studios' First-Person Shooter DEATHLOOP Is No Longer PlayStation 5 Launch Title

Arkane Studios — the renowned team behind Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and Prey — have some bad news for all fans of the studio's creative output, as their next big thing — Deathloop — has been delayed.

Although Deathloop was supposed to make its long-awaited debut this holiday season as a PlayStation 5 launch title, Arkane Studios and Bethesda have pushed it back to Q2 2021. It means that the action-packed FPS will now arrive on the console and PC at some point between the beginning of April and end of June.

"We've made the decision to move the launch date of Deathloop to 2021," Arkane Studios revealed earlier today. "Our ambition for Deathloop is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world. At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority. As we've adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal," the company added.

For those unfamiliar with Deathloop, it's a Groundhog Day–like FPS that allows player to assume the role of Colt — an assassin who has to kill eight targets before time runs out. You see, he's trapped in a time loop — and killing some very specific bad guys is the only way to break it and allow the hero move on with his life.

To learn more about the core mechanics of Deathloop, check out its QuakeCon at Home trailer down below:

The island of Blackreef. For most of its inhabitants, it’s a paradise. But for Colt, it’s an inescapable prison. Thanks to a mysterious timeloop, he’s reliving the same day, over and over, trying to find a way to break the endless cycle he’s trapped in. As Colt, you’ll have to take out eight targets – including your arch-nemesis Julianna Blake – if you ever want to escape. But remember: It’s a timeloop, so if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

Deathloop is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC in Q2 2021.
