PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME REMAKE Is Made by Over 170 People; Ubisoft Says "Polish Will Be There"
There's no denying that the first official presentation of Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake did not go as Ubisoft had planned, with many fans comparing Ubisoft India's take on the classic to Halo Infinite.
Unfortunately, it's not a good thing. Just like 343 Industries' troubled sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake has become something of a running joke among players, as the game's surprisingly last-gen character models showcased in its reveal trailer have sparked some major controversy.
According to the company, there's nothing to worry about, as Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake — which is powered by Ubisoft's in-house engine AnvilNext 2.0 (Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin's Creed Odyssey) — will look, sound, and feel like a modern game. "You can be sure that the game will be top notch [upon release in] January 2021,” Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Game Director Pierre-Sylvain Gires said in an interview with Gadgets 360. "You can be sure that the polish will be there."
Although the long-rumoured reimagining of the 2003 hit definitely doesn't hold the same importance for the French publisher as Assassin's Creed Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion, it also doesn't necessarily mean that the first major video game starring the titular hero since 2010's Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is some side project. In fact, the remake is being developed by over 170 people at Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune.
It's probably worth remembering that the aforementioned studios have never created an AAA game before.
Considering that Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time Remake isn't going to hit stores anytime soon — as the title will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in January — and will be playable on Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility — the teams at Ubisoft India still have plenty of time to make sure that their biggest project to date lives up to the legacy of one of the most influential video games in history.
