The Intergalactic War’s Not Over in Truly Spectacular STAR WARS: SQUADRONS Animated Short

As promised, Electronic Arts has released a breathtaking animated short for Star Wars: Squadrons, putting the spotlight on the New Republic fleet's victorious attempt at destroying the Imperial dockyard at Var-Shaa.

The brand-new CGI short — titled "Hunted” — focuses on the story of Imperial pilot Varko Grey. The ending of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi may have suggested that the Empire was completely and utterly defeated, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, EA Motive's game will shine a new light on that untold chapter in the Star Wars saga — and the consequences of the destruction of the second Death Star.

"I think we’ve always been powerful believers in the intersection of media," Lucasfilm Vice President of Franchise Content and Strategy James Waugh said. "More than ever, there’s a sort of porous ecosystem where different media types enhance each other when we’re constructing them holistically. And I truly think that’s one of the strengths of the Star Wars franchise these days. You can experience storytelling in limitless ways, and it all connects, and it all resonates. There’s a moment in this short where an event happens that will be referred to in the game. And I think that sort of enchants the game. If you’ve seen these things collectively, the aggregate effect will be that much more powerful."

In other Star Wars: Squadrons–related news, EA has officially confirmed that the long-awaited project has gone gold, which means that the base game is finished and will launch on October 2 as originally planned.

Without further ado, take a closer look at the spectacular Star Wars: Squadrons animated short down below:

The second Death Star is gone, but starfighter pilots unite on both sides of the Galactic Civil War as it rages on in STAR WARS: Squadrons.
