Red Storm Is Developing Oculus-Exclusive Experiences Based on ASSASSIN'S CREED and SPLINTER CELL

Following his brief appearances in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Breakpoint, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Elite Squad, Ubisoft has confirmed that Sam Fisher will make a return in a new Splinter Cell production.

Although we've been hearing about the next entry in the beloved series for a good while now — thanks to Italian voice actor Luca Ward — it turns out that it won't be a typical stealth game, as the newly revealed project — which is being led by Red Storm Entertainment (Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, Star Trek: Bridge Crew) and co-developed by Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Dusseldorf, and Ubisoft Mumbai — is a VR experience.

That's right, the first major entry in the Splinter Cell franchise since 2013's SC: Blacklist won't be available for traditional systems, heading only to Oculus. What's even better, Red Storm is simultaneously developing a new project set in the fan-favourite Assassin's Creed world that will be also exclusive to Facebook's platform.

Both productions created by the award-winning studio are expected to hit stores at some point next year.

The never-before-seen Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell titles are not the only big-budget video games that will be available on the Quest and Rift headsets in the coming months, as Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be launching sometime this holiday season (MoH:AB on December 11), with Population One, Jurassic World Aftermath, Myst, The Climb 2, Warhammer 40,000 Battle Sister, Pistol Whip 2089, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and Sniper Elite VR releasing on Oculus "soon."
