Ubisoft Is Still Working on BEYOND GOOD & EVIL 2 Even Without Michel Ancel on Board as Director

Michel Ancel — the creator of Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil — may have retired from the industry to focus more on conserving wildlife, but Ubisoft is still developing his dream project, Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The publisher has officially confirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in the works, despite the fact that its original director has decided to abandon the project. Ubisoft has also revealed that the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 classic is a full-blown next-gen project, so it probably won't be available for PS4 and XBO.

According to Senior Producer Guillaume Brunier, Ancel "hasn’t been directly involved in BG&E2 for some time now, as the team have been hard at work building on top of the solid creative foundation he helped shape. The team’s collective strength has us well on our way to developing a flagship next-generation action-adventure game. We recently passed an important internal milestone, delivering a build that proves our Space Pirate Fantasy and offers hours of gameplay and an incredible level of freedom in a seamless online sandbox, building upon the promise of our tech demos shown at E3."

"I’m incredibly proud of the team’s perseverance, dedication to each other and ongoing commitment to developing an amazing game," Brunier — who previously worked on From Dust and ZombiU — added.

Although the sequel was announced in 2017, we will have to wait until 2021 to learn more about the game.

There's no denying that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is one huge undertaking, as the game is being led by Ubisoft Montpellier (Rayman Legends), with Ubisoft Paris (Ghost Recon: Breakpoint), Ubisoft Blue Byte (The Settlers), Ubisoft Sofia (Assassin's Creed Rogue), Ubisoft Barcelona (Might & Magic Elemental Guardians), and Ubisoft Bordeaux (Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Discovery Tour) helping the French team bring their new vision to life.

It's probably worth remembered that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is not the only project set in the Michel Ancel–created world Ubisoft is working on, as the French publisher and Netflix are developing a TV movie based on the beloved franchise. The production will be helmed by Rob Letterman (Pokémon Detective Pikachu).
