There's no denying that many fans of Sonic the Hedgehog simply can't wait to learn more about the recently announced sequel to this year's sleeper hit, and chances are that cameras will start rolling on the flick soon.
Reportedly, Paramount Pictures is planning to start shooting the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel in March 2021.
Fans of the first movie should be happy to hear that Director Jeff Fowler (who's also working on a new live-action film about The Pink Panther), Ben Schwartz and James Marsden are expected to return for the sequel.
The coronavirus pandemic is showing little signs of letting up in Europe and the Americas, but Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy Holdings are still committed to releasing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on April 8, 2022.
Although we know next to nothing about the upcoming flick, the original's post-credits scene suggests that the blue hero will have to team-up with Miles "Tails" Prower to stop Doctor Eggman's evil plans once again.
Considering that Sonic the Hedgehog was a rather surprising production — as Fowler's ambitious directorial debut dominated the box office in its opening weekend with ease and earned a rare "A" CinemaScore (as the first video game movie ever) despite the controversy surrounding Sonic's terrifying look revealed in that infamous teaser trailer — here's hoping that the follow-up will manage to repeat its predecessor's success.
