DUNE Star Oscar Isaac Has Been Cast as Solid Snake in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' METAL GEAR SOLID Movie
The long-awaited Metal Gear Solid movie has finally found its Solid Snake (not to be confused with Big Boss and Liquid Snake), as the Hideo Kojima–created character will be played by Oscar Isaac (Annihilation, Dune).
That's right, Isaac — who recently joined the Moon Knight cast as Mr. Spector — will portray the iconic spy.
With Isaac being cast as the upcoming movie's main protagonist, chances are that we will learn a whole lot more about Sony's Metal Gear Solid movie — which will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer, Kong: Skull Island) — its supporting cast, setting, and production start date in the very near future.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the movie's script will be written by Vogt-Roberts' longtime collaborator Derek Connolly. Interestingly enough, Metal Gear Solid won't be the first video game movie he's penned, as he previously had the chance to work on Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (fun fact: the adaptation's helmer Rob Letterman is now developing a feature-length movie based on Ubisoft's Beyond Good and Evil for Netflix).
Metal Gear Solid is produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Ghost in the Shell) and Columbia Pictures' Peter Kang.
There's no denying that Sony is trying quite hard to turn video game movies into mainstream entertainment, as the Venom studio is also producing Paul W. S. Anderson's Monster Hunter (coming December 25), Ruben Fleischer's Uncharted (releasing July 16), and even a full-blown adaptation of Smilegate's Crossfire franchise.
