THE MEDIUM: The Maw Plays Mind Games With Marianne in 14 Minutes of Dark Gameplay Footage

Although its title suggests otherwise, The Medium is Bloober Team's biggest project so far — and if you just can't wait to play the Polish team's take on Silent Hill, they have released some new footage from the game.

The never-before-seen video puts the spotlight on the next-gen title's most original feature — the officially patented Dual Reality mechanic. In The Medium, our main protagonist — Marianne, played by Polish actress Weronika Rosati, and dubbed by a yet-to-be-revealed voice artist for English-speaking audiences — will face her most terrible fears to solve an outrageous crime involving child murder. During her search for the killer, the hero will be forced to explore a haunted communist hotel that holds many dark, pulse-pounding secrets.

To stand a chance against various interdimensional monstrosities occupying the inn, Marianne will have to master her psychic abilities, and switch between our reality and a darker, way more dangerous dimension — inspired by the works of Zdzisław Beksiński and Salvador Dalí — if necessary. That's right, the heroin doesn't possess any offensive skills, so hiding from monsters will be the only way to survive the journey in one piece.

The Medium was supposed to make its debut in December, but Bloober decided to push it back and avoid a painful clash with Cyberpunk 2077. The Alan Wake–esque horror will now be arriving on PC and Xbox Series (as a console launch exclusive) on January 28. The title will also be available via Xbox Game Pass on day one.

The first major horror game of 2021 is right around the corner, so take a look at this fresh footage right now:
