SPLINTER CELL VR Will Feature Original Multiplayer Component, New Job Listing Suggests

After years of keeping Sam Fisher locked in the basement for no good reason, Ubisoft is finally producing a brand-new Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video game — and it will seemingly feature a major online component.

According to a job listing posted on the "Ubisoft Careers" website, Ubisoft Düsseldorf is looking for a senior lead game designer who will lead "the Düsseldorf team to define and deliver the multiplayer content of the game in time and quality" — and "the game" is none other than the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell VR title.

That's just speculation on our part, but there's no denying that the Spies vs. Mercs online mode has been an integral part of the series ever since the release of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow in 2004, so chances are that it will make a return for the mysterious Splinter Cell VR project in some way, shape, or form.

Fans of the legendary franchise should keep in mind that Splinter Cell VR is an Oculus-exclusive production.

Development on Splinter Cell VR is led by Red Storm Entertainment (Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2, Star Trek: Bridge Crew) with help from Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Mumbai, and the aforementioned German studio.

According to Luca Ward — Italian voice actor for Sam Fisher — said next entry in the evergreen series will make its debut in 2021 — unfortunately, it's safe to say that the pandemic has made the already complex development cycle a whole lot harder, so it's possible that we will have to wait until 2022 to actually play it.

Although Splinter Cell VR doesn't have a concrete release date, we do know that it isn't the only huge game Red Storm is currently developing, as the beloved studio is also working on an Assassin's Creed VR project.
