Netflix's THE DIVISION Has Found New Director — WE'RE THE MILLERS' Rawson Marshall Thurber

Netflix has finally provided an update on the adaptation of The Division — the hit video game about a group of special agents trying to stop the spread of a deadly disease in New York — and it turns out that the movie has found a new director. The production will now be helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (We're the Millers, Central Intelligence). His most recent project — Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson — made its debut in 2018.

According to Collider's Jeff Sneider, Thurber will re-write the script — originally made by Rafe Judkins (Chuck, Uncharted) — from scratch with Ellen Shanman. His company Bad Version will also produce the flick.

Thurber's next big thing — Red Notice with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot in the lead roles — has already wrapped filming and will arrive on Netflix in 2021, which means that The Division may finally start shooting in the not-too-distant future. As a reminder, the film was first announced in January 2017.

The Division movie has been through multiple directors over the years, as Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Dolittle) and David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) were both attached to direct but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts (Leitch is currently busy developing Bullet Train, a star-studded action thriller starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Lady Gaga, Michael Shannon, Zazie Beetz, and Hiroyuki Sanada).

Although The Division has been in the works for a good while now, Jake Gyllenhaal (The Sisters Brothers, Nightcrawler) and Jessica Chastain (The 355, Molly's Game) are still set to both star and produce the picture.

The long-awaited thriller isn't the only video game movie based on a Ubisoft franchise Netflix is working on, as Detective Pikachu's Rob Letterman is attached to direct a big-budget adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil.
